About Hiatt Consulting New Zealand
Independent. Trusted. Connected.
Hiatt Consulting New Zealand (HCNZ) provides owner-side representation for offshore clients with interests in New Zealand.
Our role is to ensure those interests are managed with alignment, continuity, and accountability over time.
David Hiatt, Founder HCNZ
David Hiatt founded HCNZ to provide offshore clients with trusted representation in New Zealand — particularly where property, local coordination and long-term oversight need to be handled with care.
His career has been shaped by work with international clients, private families and their advisors across luxury tourism, complex projects, property and private client environments. These are settings where discretion matters, detail is important, and trust is earned through judgement and follow-through.
David brings broad experience across management, governance and senior advisory roles — working with private families, family offices and international enterprise clients across luxury tourism, property, education, healthcare and Government-related advisory environments, alongside trustee responsibilities across numerous private portfolios.
He understands how private clients and their advisors make decisions: carefully, quietly and with a strong preference for people who do what they say they will do.
As a fifth-generation New Zealander, David brings a depth of local understanding that is difficult to replicate. His relationships across the country have been built through family, business, governance and community life — and are drawn on selectively, always in the client's interest.
Operating model
HCNZ operates as a deliberately small and focused practice.
Each engagement is led directly, ensuring consistency, accountability, and continuity over time.
Where appropriate, we work alongside a small network of trusted specialists—while maintaining a single point of coordination and responsibility.
How we work
We work in a way that aligns with each client—and with the advisors and structures around them.
Some clients prefer regular involvement.
Others prefer a lighter touch, with matters handled on their behalf.
Our role is to adapt accordingly—ensuring the right information is provided at the right time.
This means being clear and direct when it matters.
We focus on what clients need to know to make sound decisions—and to ensure those decisions are carried through—rather than simply what may be expected or assumed.
A long-term perspective
Most client relationships are ongoing.
While some engagements begin during acquisition or establishment, our role is defined by what follows—ensuring assets, structures, and arrangements continue to operate as intended over time.
HCNZ provides independent, in-country representation and coordination. We do not provide legal, immigration, financial, or tax advice — these are handled by appropriately qualified professionals, alongside whom we work. HCNZ is not a licensed real estate agent under the Real Estate Agents Act 2008.
